 The Curriculum and Organisation

The school curriculum aims to give the children time and space to grow and develop emotionally, intellectually, socially and physically. Through observation of the varying patterns of this growth and development, appropriate plans are made ensuring variety and progression in indoor and outdoor play situations, play materials and sensory experiences, so that the development of the children’s skills and concepts is sustained and extended.

A variety of challenging stimuli is provided to exploit the children’s natural curiosity, to foster listening, imagining and communicating skills, to develop problem solving and decision making capacities and to encourage positive attitudes and dispositions towards learning.

Within a balanced daily programme, provision is made for vigorous and challenging outdoor play, child initiated and teacher directed indoor play, which includes provision for the development of mathematical, scientific, linguistic, musical, physical, creative and aesthetic skills.

In addition, through a series of themes i.e. AUTUMN, CHRISTMAS, WINTER, ANIMALS, PEOPLE WHO HELP US, SPRING HATCHING DUCKLINGS and SUMMER, these skills are further developed and extended across the curriculum.  A spiritual dimension is also introduced through the themes.  With staff and parental encouragement, it is hoped that the children will develop in skill and competence, that they will take pride in their achievements and that they will be enabled to perceive themselves an effective and competent people.
